How AI is changing work
Legal & financial
Getting through contracts and case files faster, with a human who signs.
Where there is a lot of text, AI helps with reading, summarising and organising. Lawyers analyse contracts, and banks and insurers have AI prepare applications. Responsibility for the judgement explicitly stays with people.
What changes
- Case files and contracts are first analysed and summarised by AI.
- Standard customer questions get answered faster.
- Applications are prepared with a proposal for the next step.
- Documents are automatically pseudonymised and translated.
Where people make the difference
- The legal or financial judgement and the signature underneath it.
- Asking critical questions about what AI delivers.
- The conversation with the client or citizen.
How AI is already used
Law firms with legal AI
Ten Dutch firms explain how they use AI, for example to analyse all contracts instead of a sample. The lawyer remains responsible.
AdvocatenbladPreparing mortgage applications
ING is testing agents in the Netherlands that analyse mortgage applications and propose a next step. An employee always reviews and decides.
INGCustomer questions with generative AI
ING built a chatbot with generative AI that answers customer questions, with its own rules to limit risks.
INGAI as the accountant's assistant
Accountants and the AFM, the Dutch financial markets authority, discuss AI as an assistant that supports, while judgement and final responsibility stay with the accountant.
Accountant.nlCustomer contact at an insurer
At the health insurance division of a.s.r., AI automatically writes call notes and helps staff find information. By its own estimate, customer contact can be handled with 20 percent fewer staff, while customer satisfaction went up.
